Why go
Deoria Tal is a calm forest lake that mirrors the Chaukhamba massif in its still morning water. The gentle climb from Sari village makes it a favourite for families and first-time trekkers.
Go early — the reflection at first light, before the breeze picks up, is the reason people come.
The trek
Sari is the road head near Ukhimath, about 30 minutes from Chopta.
2.5 km of gentle forest climb, about 1–1.5 hours; easy and well marked.
The lake sits inside the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary: the forest department charges an entry fee at the gate, and camping on the lakeshore is not allowed. Carry your own water and bring all your litter back down.
FAQ
Two to three hours from Sari village and back, plus time at the lake. Start at dawn for the best reflection.
Not on the same day as the Kedarnath trek. Sari is about 2.5 hours by road from Sonprayag, so pair it with a night in Chopta or Ukhimath instead.
No. The path is short, busy in season and clearly marked. Children and older walkers usually manage it at their own pace.
